Dr. Ahmed AlShaikh
Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Ahmed AlShaikh is the CEO at BIBF. He brings a wealth of experience to BIBF that will reinforce its strategy of being the region’s foremost business and finance education and training provider.
Dr. Al Shaikh’s previous roles include a number of high profile leadership positions most recently as Vice-President, Enterprise and Human Capital Development at Tamkeen. Part of the original management group, he was responsible for executing the Human Resources Development and Private Sector Support initiatives which constituted a major element of the Labour Market Reform Project and Tamkeen’s mandate.
He has spent over 16 years in higher education holding various positions in the College of Business Administration at the University of Bahrain. He played a major role in executing several strategies in the capacity of Chairman of the Economics and Financial Department and the Director of Continuing Management Education Programme. Dr. Al Shaikh also lectured at both the University of Maryland and the Bahrain Institute of Banking & Finance. At the University of Bahrain, he established the evening programme of the College of Business Administration, as well as the Bachelor of Science Programme in Banking and Finance. Dr. Al Shaikh has held a variety of consultancy roles including initiatives such as the ‘Productivity in Bahrain Manufacturing Industries’, ‘Privatisation in Bahrain’, and ‘Refining and Adjusting Aspects of the Macro-Economic Forecast for Interactive Multimedia in GCC countries’.
He has attended and actively participated in numerous local and international Economic and Human Resources conferences and seminars covering topics such as Privatisation, Market Structures from Islamic perspectives, and Industrial Investments in the GCC.
Dr. Al Shaikh was appointed as one of the members of the Board of Trustees of the Human Resources Development Fund – Banking & Financial Sector on Jan 20, 2014. He is also currently a Board Member of the College of Health Sciences and Talal Abu-Ghazaleh University. Previously, he was a Board Member of the Capinnova Investment Bank, the High Council for Vocational Training, and was part of the BIBF Advisory Group.
Dr. Ahmed AlShaikh holds a Ph.D. in Economics, MA in Economic Development from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom. He also holds a Post Graduate Degree in Economics from the University of East Anglia, a B.Sc. in Business Administration from the University of Bahrain and a Higher National Diploma in Business Administration from the Gulf Polytechnic. He has published a number of research papers in which he has explored topics such as the Financial Performance of Commercial Banks, Privatisation in Bahrain, and Inter-country Inequality Applying Well-being Measures. He has also conducted several workshops and training for private and public sector organisations.
