To prepare students for an undergraduate BSc degree in UK universities, the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF) announced the launch of its revamped International Foundation Programme (IFP), that is recognised by UK NARIC – the body responsible for determining the comparability of qualifications in the UK.
The enhancements include introducing a new module: ‘Principles of Accounting’, which allows a smoother transition when progressing to the Year I programme. The Principles of Accounting module touches on the theory and practice of Financial Accounting, Management Accounting and Financial Management. Also, the revamped modules include advanced and trending topics such as emerging business trends and ethical and social responsibility concepts offered in the Business Trends module.
On this occasion, the British Ambassador to Bahrain, H.E. Mr. Roderick Drummond stated, “We are very pleased to see the growing collaboration between the BIBF and UK organisations, and excited for the opportunities this partnership and the expanded programme will offer students in Bahrain and the region.”
BIBF Head of Academics Centre, Dr. Raja Bucheery stated the revamped programme is linked to student’s professional goals and helps them develop generic skills that have a life-long impact such as problem solving, critical thinking, time management, flexibility, communication, and use of technology.
“The programme allows them to enter directly into an undergraduate degree within the Business and Social Science disciplines in world renowned Universities in the United Kingdom.” She added.
Dr. Raja also mentioned that the one-year programme is intended for individuals with a high school diploma (or comparable qualification) seeking progression to degree-level study with the BIBF or internationally, at institutional discretion. It consists of eight modules, all compulsory, providing students with introductory-level knowledge in business, finance, economics, mathematics, English, accounting as well as the study skills required for transitioning from school to higher education.
“Students who successfully complete the foundation programme will be eligible to progress to the undergraduate degree programmes offered at the BIBF, that are awarded by highly ranked UK universities such as Bangor University and University of London. Students may progress to other degree programmes, generally in the stream of Business and Social Sciences, provided they achieve the qualifying grades required by the other institution.” Dr. Bucheeri concluded.
