What are the new CIPD qualifications and pathways?

The new CIPD qualifications cover a range of units that deal with the latest trends, practices, and practical application in HR and L&D areas. The new CIPD qualifications provide participants with the option to obtain a Foundation Level Award, Certificate or a Diploma in Human Resources [HR] or Learning & Development [L&D] pathways. The foundation level qualifications are at an equivalent level to NVQ/SVQ level 3
Human Resources (HR) pathway

These qualifications are designed to help participants develop essential HR skills and give them the input to become more effective at work and add value to their HR function.

Those interested in a move into HR
Those who are working in HR in a support role and wish to develop their knowledge and skills
Line managers who are involved in HR and those who have responsibility for HR activities and decisions within an organisation without a specialist function

Award in HR Essentials

To qualify for an award in HR Essentials, participants must complete a core unit or an optional unit in the HR pathway with a minimum 3 credits.

Certificate in HR Practice (CHRP)


The Foundation Level Certificate in Human Resource Practice (CHRP) is a new qualification that replaces the previously available CIPD Certificate in Personnel Practice (CPP).

To qualify for a CHRP, participants must complete the core units and a selection of optional units, totalling a minimum of 28 credits.

Diploma in HR Practice (DHRP)

To qualify for a DHRP, participants must complete the core units and a selection of optional units, totalling a minimum of 37 credits.

How is it assessed?
All units are assessed through different types of assignments.
Learning & Development pathway

These qualifications are designed to provide an in-depth and thorough grounding in the training cycle and fundamentals of learning and development.

Who is it for?

Those aspiring to, or embarking on, a career in L&D
People working in the field of L&D in a support role who wish to develop their knowledge and skills
Those responsible for L&D activities and decisions within an organisation without a specialist function
Those contracted as employees or independent consultants within the field of L&D
